Under Armour Go Off-Road with the HOVR Summit Fat Tire
Headlining the explorative Street to Summit collection, the Summit Fat Tire is latest outdoor hybrid silhouette. It may be equipped to tackle off-road terrain, but the new design was in fact created with versatility at its core.
‘We wanted to create a shoe that wasn’t another barrier,’ says Yurri Mial, Senior Footwear Design Manager at Under Armour. ‘Be it in the streets of Los Angeles or the Hollywood Hills, I can have the same footwear that can transition with me.’
Looking to build on the popular Fat Tire trail runners and hiking boots from 2015, the design team turned to UA’s flagship footwear technology: HOVR. Incorporating 360-degrees of soft HOVR foam, the new midsole is encapsulated by a dynamic mesh energy-web atop a bottom loaded with a plush layer of foam. Below that sits a Michelin outsole redesigned with carved nodes for added traction and bounce. All three layers work together to achieve the comfort and rebound of a runner, with the grip and durability of a boot.
Up top, UA looked to Samurai armour to inspire the unique lacing system. The ‘agemaki knot’ three-lace design provides a stable, lockdown fit, with a toggle cord cinch for easier entry and exit. Meanwhile, a protective ripstop upper and moulded heel overlay join a stretch-knit collar and a sock-like neoprene tongue for an ultra-cosy feel. Additionally, those wanting to take this hybrid sneaker to a more unforgiving terrain can make use of a zip-on moulded neoprene ankle cuff (only available with the SS21 colorways).
The Under Armour HOVR Summit Fat Tire will be available globally on from October 2, with more colourways to come!
