Up-Close: The Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind 5 ‘Bloody Chrome’

UK grime artist Skepta continues to flex his collaborative acumen with Nike, the Tottenham talent already building a solid catalogue of Swoosh sneakers. A godfather of the UK sneaker style and the grime scene, Skepta has dropped contemporary classics like the Nike Air Max 97 Sk and Nike Shox TL.

Modelled on the idea of creative metamorphosis and butterfly wings, the Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind 5 is another feather in Skepta’s cap, the phosphorescent ‘Bright Blue’ colourway clearly extending the artistic vocabulary of his album, Ignorance is Bliss.

We’ve now got our second colourway of the Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind 5, the ‘Bloody Chrome’ remix scheduled to land on June 12.

A closer look at the design highlights the idea of butterfly wings yet again, the Tailwind 5 also incorporating a chrome Swoosh and soleplate – a homage to Skepta’s love of jewellery. Of course, the ‘Sk Air’ branding is again emblazoned on the tongues.

The Skepta x Nike Air Max Tailwind 5 ‘Bloody Chrome’ lands on June 12. The retail price is $180.
