Vans Tape Down the Half Cab
Among the numerous listed for 2022 is the 30th, and the ultimate Cali-brand has come to the party with some clever nods to the model's backstory. Nicknamed the ‘Tape’ pack, this OG-leaning colourway is an inspired take on an essential chapter of skate shoe lore.
The Half Cab was conceived circa 1992 when Steve Caballero cut down a pair of his eponymous high-top signature Vans shoes so his ankles could move freely. Legend says that he then duct-taped the exposed hole to stop further fraying as he skated on, and thus a new model was born.
This new colourway references that oral history via the silver ankle collar that definitely resembles the sticky strapping. The remainder is predominately black suede with contrast white stitching, which is matched by the woven Half Cab branding on the lateral ankle and tongue logos. Faux croc texture is embossed into the mid panel for a premium touch. This all sits atop Vans’ classic vulcanised rubber soles with waffle pattern tread.
The Vans Half Cab ‘Tape’ is available now from Sneaker District.
