Virgil Abloh Has Even More Nike Sneakers Releasing
Virgil Abloh and have revealed that they will be releasing even more sneakers than first thought. Joining the already unveiled colabs are five new models: an , a , a , an and a have entered the fray – all built to express the same DIY design language Abloh’s sneakers are known for.
In a Abloh expounds on the homemade vibes of the collaboration, which has been named ‘The Ten’. He explains that he got to work from his first visit to Beaverton. ‘I didn't wait all those years just to have meetings at Nike,’ he says. Instead, he picked up an X-ACTO knife and started tinkering with designs, rebuilding an Air Force 1 with Matt Kilgore (son of Air Force 1 designer Bruce Kilgore).
Nike remark that the project was one of their fastest, with Abloh and his craft scalpel churning out ten shoes in ten months.
The hype surrounding the sneakers has been fever pitched so far, but you might not have to worry if you miss out. According to Abloh, they’re all designs you could recreate yourself. Speaking on how he wanted his process to look approachable, he says, ‘Yes, we're making a desired product, but by making a trip to your local store, and using tools you have at home, you could also make this shoe.’
We have some reservations as to whether the average person could whip up a similar design. So, unless you're a wizard with a craft knife, you're probably better off trying to get them direct. Nike say the first five shoes – the , , , and – will be released at in New York on September 9, London on September 18, Milan on September 21 and Paris on September 26.
