There ’s a Lot Going On with the Y-3 Runner Adidas 4D Halo
launched his partnership with almost 20 years ago with a constant focus on the latest technology available at the time fused with his avant garde styling. As the fashion designer explains it, ‘Y-3 is a strong examination of the blend of sport and style and the tension caused by mixing tradition with all that is modern.' This is certainly the case with their latest sneaker model, the Y-3 Runner adidas 4D Halo, which draws on the entirety of the brand’s playbook.
While 4D soles have remained largely unchanged since their implementation, Yamamoto makes a point of difference by specifying studded tread – a feature never seen before with this midsole. The creamy colour is a striking contrast to the stark black upper, which sees a mixture of very large open mesh and a stretchy bootie ankle. It’s definitely not a shoe for sneakerheads with trypophobia. There are minimal bonded overlays on the mudguard and toe for extra structure, and the shoe is completed with what’s become something of a Y-3 signature: some loose threads stitched through the sides, running into the midsole to represent the three stripes. It's even woven through the 4D midsole’s lattice structure.
The Y-3 Runner adidas 4D Halo is available now directly from adidas.
