Futurecraft
Innovation has been the primary focus at adidas since Adi Dassler started the company in 1949. In more recent times, the charge has been spearheaded by Futurecraft, the German company’s experimental research hub. Futurecraft’s existence was announced at the end of 2015 with the launch of the Futurecraft 3D, a cageless Primeknit upper atop striking 3D-printed midsoles. One month later, adidas unveiled the Futurecraft Leather, a classic Superstar created using a new manufacturing technique that milled the shoe’s uppers from a single piece of leather. But by far the most exciting innovation to burst from the secretive Futureraft foundry is adidas’ 4D printing technology.
