React Element 87
Nike’s React Element 87 debuted on the UNDERCOVER runway at Paris Fashion Week in 2018 before dropping with a staggered release in June and July. Helmed by Nike Sportswear’s special projects team, the shoe not only makes use of the energy-returning React foam first seen on the Epic React, but comes with an of-the-moment translucent upper of 100% TPE yarn textile. The design manages to be both retro and futuristic all at once thanks to its modern tech, internationalist-inspired design cues, and cork insoles. Following its GR debut, Nike released the 87’s UNDERCOVER colab before following it up with a more affordable version of the design. Dubbed the React Element 55, the design is nearly identical to its coveted predecessor but ditches the cork insoles and TPE construction.
