From Court to Campus: FAMU Unveils Exclusive Nike LeBron PEs
King James' time on the court may be winding down, but his impact on basketball and sneakers continues to endure. Currently in season 21 with 22 mainline signature shoes to his name, LeBron James is firmly in the twilight of his illustrious career. Every new release carries extra weight as fans prepare for the inevitability of a league without him.
The latest addition to the LeBron lineup is a collection of Player Exclusives (PEs) crafted specifically for Florida A&M University (FAMU). The four-pack includes the LeBron 22 and the takedown model, the NXXT Gen AMPD, both dressed in striking 'Home' and 'Away' editions. Drawing inspiration from the Rattlers’ iconic green, white, and orange uniforms, these sneakers are a vibrant nod to FAMU’s heritage. Sadly for fans, these PEs seem to be staying exclusive, despite the FAMU-themed LeBron 7s making their way to retail shelves in 2024.
LeBron's partnership with FAMU comes as no surprise. In 2021, the HBCU inked a six-year deal with Nike, emphasising the LeBron line as a key part of the collaboration.
The LeBron 22 itself made its debut on the global stage when James wore it against Serbia during the Olympic Games in Paris. Team USA dominated with a 110-84 victory, and LeBron delivered a stellar triple-double: 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in 32 minutes of play.
