No, this is not a drill – the Los Angeles Lakers have pulled off one of the most seismic trades in NBA history. The LA team have acquired superstar Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Anthony Davis, young guard Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round draft pick. The deal, finalised on February 2, 2025, also involved the Utah Jazz, who received Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

The blockbuster trade pairs Dončić with LeBron James, creating one of the most intriguing duos in Lakers history, while Davis joins forces with Kyrie Irving in Dallas. The move also marks the first time in NBA history that two active All-NBA players have been swapped midseason.

Beyond its impact on the court, the blockbuster deal is big news for the Jordan Brand. Dončić signed with the Jumpman in December 2019, becoming one of the youngest NBA players to land a signature deal with the brand. Since then, Jordan Brand have released three signature shoes for the five-time NBA All-Star, each showcasing his inimitable playing style. A key figure in Jumpman’s global expansion, Dončić commands a huge following in Europe and his home country, Slovenia. His move to Los Angeles, one of the biggest basketball markets in the world, only amplifies his profile, giving Jordan Brand even more exposure on the NBA’s biggest stage. Over the years, he’s rocked a collection of clean Jordan Retro PEs, including exclusive versions of the Air Jordan 36 and Air Jordan 37.

Anthony Davis is signed with Nike and has been since entering the NBA in 2012. While he doesn’t have a signature shoe, he’s been an important part of Nike’s basketball lineup, lacing models like the Air Max Dominate, Hyperposite, and various Kobe sneakers. Of course, he’s also played in several LeBron signature shoes and PEs over the years.
