WNBA sharpshooter Sabrina Ionescu can now add some more impressive hardware to her collection of awards: an Olympic gold medal. Joining an indomitable roster of US talent including Breanna Stewart and A’ja Wilson, Team USA managed to edge beloved hometown team France for the gold, after Marine Johannès couldn’t quite send the game to overtime.

To celebrate Sabrina’s huge win, Nike gifted the New York Liberty star a special edition version of the Nike Sabrina 2, aptly named the ‘Gold Medal’ PE. Dressed in a patriotic mix of red and blue, the model's pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the striking gold Swoosh. Gold accents also embellish the tongue and heel, while custom insoles are printed with celebratory graphics, including the Paris 2024 logo. Unfortunately, it’s looking like these will remain PEs for the time being.

Signing with Nike in 2020, Sabrina’s signature line marked the first time a women’s basketball player released a unisex signature shoe. Notably lighter than its predecessor (28 grams, in fact), the Sabrina 2 features a plush Cushlon 3.0 foam midsole (seen for the first time in a Nike basketball shoe) and Zoom Air unit in the forefoot. There’s also plenty of detailed fan service in the design, including fragments around the Swoosh logo, an ode to the proverbial glass ceiling Sabrina continues to break through in the game of basketball.
