Here at Sneaker Freaker we’re psyched that skateboarding has remained on the Olympic calendar a second time, after being brought in for Tokyo 2020. Team Japan dominated both the women’s and men’s street skating, with Yuto Horigome and Coco Yoshizawa both scoring gold for their country. For the men’s street skating, USA’s Jagger Eaton and Nyjah Huston secured the silver and bronze, respectively, while in the women’s, Japan’s Liz Akama came second while Brazil’s Rayssa Leal came in third. Other than an epic performance, one thing these skaters had in common was that they were rocking heat on-feet!

Kicking it off with the women’s street skating, skate icon Rayssa came correct rocking her very own Nike SB collaboration. As a star team rider in Nike SB’s lineup, it wasn’t surprising when it was leaked in 2023 that the 16-year-old would receive her own linkup. Another skater who came correct was Australian skateboarding prodigy Chloe Covell, who showed what the Nike SB PS8 could do! Other brands were also in full force, with Aussie Liv Lovelace repping New Balance, and Japanese skaters had on the ASICS GEL-FLexkee, which was recently resurrected with the help of OTTO 958.

The men’s skaters were decked out with an equal amount of heaters, with CARIUMA a heavy hitter especially for Portugal’s Gustavo Ribeiro. Of course old SoCal skate legends Vans were on the course, with Brazil’s Giovanni Vianna rocking the Old Skools. Signature sneaks were a plenty, with Yuto Horigome, the reigning Olympic champion who currently has two gold medals, wearing his SB collaboration. Following the star boarders SB Dunk Low release last year, an ‘Asparagus’ sample surfaced, but it’s still unclear if that will release.

Let’s see what the skaters will bust out for the Park competition kicking off next week.
