Despite its premier performance, the adidas Adizero Pro Evo 1 is notorious for its one-race stamina and $500 price tag. While adi have a number of alternatives for everyday training and more than one race, they have now announced a direct takedown of the Pro Evo 1 that not only costs a lot less, but will get you more miles too – that is if you decide to run in them as adidas have marketed them ‘for you to run in. Or not’.

The new model is the Adizero Evo SL, and it comes in at $150 and 224 grams. Even though it’s a solid $350 cheaper and 86 grams heavier than the Evo 1, the SL doesn’t lose the competitive spirit of its super alternative. It still features a Lightstrike Pro midsole for first-class energy return and has the same sporty aesthetic, with its sleek lines and bold Three Stripes.

The difference is mainly in the upper, as it takes on a thicker mesh upper that will provide more stable support for everyday running as opposed to the Pro Evo 1’s upper that is so thin, it’s translucent. It’s important to note though that even though the SL is much heavier, it’s a testament to just how light the Pro Evo 1 is rather than to the detriment of the SL’s build. For comparison, the Adizero SL is 243 grams and the Adios Pro 3 is 215 grams.

We might also be receiving a collaboration via Kith, as what was originally thought to be the Pro Evo 1 in his teaser back in September actually now looks like the Evo SL, as the toe doesn’t arch up like the former model typically does.

The adidas Adizero Evo SL ‘Cloud White/Core Black’ is hitting the pavement on October 25 in both men’s and women’s iterations for $150.
