UPDATE: Months after they were slated to drop, the NMD_R2s from this duo are finally hitting stores. Originally believed to be inspired by the streets of Hong Kong, this pack's true source of inspiration lies in The Land of the Rising Sun. Themed after Tokyo's iconic Shibuya crossing – evident by the striped panels that adorn the tongue and heel – this NMD_R2 release is set to be more limited than most.
The adidas NMD_R2 'Tokyo' will release on May 20 exclusively through adidas Originals flagship stores located in Tokyo, Mexico City, Berlin, Shanghai, Seoul, Moscow, London, Milan, New York and Paris.
You'd be be forgiven for thinking that a brand would retire an old model once its successor appears on the scene, but that's not the case at adidas! The OG NMD_R1 returns in a two-pack together with its follow-up, the NMD_R2.
Inspired by the bright lights of Hong Kong, the duo are hit with adidas' XENO tech, which equips both shoes with reflective details. The laces and Three Stripes logo light up in low light and are positively vibrant when caught by a flash. While the NMD_R1 goes for a familiar mesh construction, the R2 steps out in neoprene, looking more comfortable than ever.
The adidas NMD Hong Kong Pack will release on March 24 through and select adidas Originals stockists.
