adidas Drop the Mother Lode of Sneakers Ahead of Paris Olympics
As the Paris Olympics fast approaches (we’re now less than 100 days away!), brands are no doubt working overtime in the studio to get their footwear and kits in tip-top shape. Today, unveiled a whopping 49 sneaker silhouettes across 41 disciplines – more than 20 of which will be worn by athletes competing this summer.
Labelled the ‘Athlete Pack’, the vast collection features sneakers for long-standing sports such as running and basketball, as well as the latest introductions like breakdancing. The footwear is all united by the central ‘fire’ theme flickering across all 49 silhouettes, representing the passion of Olympic athletes.
‘The flare flashes across each shoe, either onto the upper of each footwear model, or on its sole – meaning when the athlete performs, the fire effect will flicker with every movement,’ Ben Herath, adidas' VP of Design for Specialist Sports, said. ‘Three stripes are just visible against a black and white colour scheme, helping reduce visual distractions caused by the shoe during competition.’
Of course, each shoe is specifically engineered to excel in its respective sport. A couple of early highlights include the adidas Adios Pro 3 for marathon runners, the adidas Barricade for tennis, and the never-before-seen Adizero Prime SP 3 Strung – made for 100m with energy return and maximum stiffness.
As part of the collection, adidas also revealed the team kits that will be worn at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Like the footwear, the kits are united by the central fire motif.
