UPDATE: Jordan Brand have revealed that this Air Jordan hybrid is a tribute Russell Westbrook's phenomenal Triple Double record. And, while we won't be getting to slip our feet into the Air Jordan 3 PEs that accompany them, we have got an official release date for the XXXI. Look for them to hit Nike online come April 29.

Jordan Brand have been churning out a steady stream of Air Jordan 1-inspired colourways for their latest Air Jordan XXXI flagship model. With each release proving a hit amongst sneakerheads and ballers alike, JB are finally branching out into other legendary models from the Air Jordan dynasty. The first colourway tackles the immortal 'Black Cement' of the Air Jordan 3, complete with elephant print crackle at the heel.

In what appears to be either tribute to – or collaboration with – Russell Westbrook, the shoe features the OKC Thunder point guard's logo on the tongue and switches out the colourway's red pops for the Thunder's signature combination of blue and orange. Down below, the words 'Why Not?' are printed beneath the clear outsoles, a nod to Westbrook's charity foundation.

Unlike any Air Jordan XXXI before it, this release curiously switches out the standard sole unit for that of the Air Jordan XXX. With no details officially announced at this stage, we'll need to wait to find out the reasoning behind this change.

The Air Jordan XXXI 'Why Not' is rumoured to release on April 29. We'll keep you posted.
