Nike SB have revealed that the previously teased colabs with are not ordinary releases, but instead are part of the federation kits for the United States and Japan skateboarding teams.
Sablone has designed the graphics and trims across the kits, which include a crest for each country, along with one for the global skateboarding community. The crests for Japan and USA fuse together her postmodern style with iconography from the respective country, whereas the global crest plays on the image of chameleons to represent the diversity of skateboarders globally. This chameleonic feature is what informs the design of the Converse CONS AS-1 Pro and , with their bumpy reptilian texture, along with leather that has wear-away, colour-changing features. The Swoosh on the Dunk Low has also been given the chameleon treatment, as it has been altered slightly to resemble the lizard's signature curvy tongue. The collection also includes apparel that is tied to skateboarding culture, including a bowler shirt, Parisian-inspired chore coat, and a relaxed-fit denim pant.
The USA and global apparel will release on July 18 at select skate shops, and the Converse AS-1 Pro and Nike SB Dunk Low will drop later on August 22 in an exclusive twin pack. They will also be available to purchase separately on August 29 via SNKRS, converse.com, and select skate shops. Stay locked to SF for the details about the Japanese kit.
If you ever want to feel motivated to do more, read Alexis Sablone’s Wiki page. Not only is she a skateboarding Olympian and now the head coach for the women’s 2024 Olympic team, but she also has a master’s degree in architecture from MIT and is an accomplished artist. If she wasn’t busy enough with all that, she has now taken to Instagram to tease a new colourway of her signature AS-1 Pro. But that’s not all – Sablone has also skated into the offices of Converse’s parent company to secure what looks like a colab.
The new AS-1 Pro iteration has a pebbled white leather with purple accents hitting the usual spots. Sitting next to it is a reptilian Dunk featuring the same purple but only lightly brushed on the scales and edging. Green in the main hero, taking on the textured upper and insole in an olive hue before finishing off the look with a darker outsole. The Dunks feature both green and purple laces in Sablone’s teaser image, so expect the pairs to come with lace options.
There’s no release details for the Converse AS-1 Pro and Nike SB Dunk just yet, but it can’t be too far away. Stay locked to SF for updates.
