Bad Bunny and Messi Kick Off an adidas Collection
It’s fair to say reggaeton megastar Bad Bunny is a fan of Lionel Messi. In fact, the Puerto Rican artist mentioned him no less than five times in his latest album, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana. The love flows both ways, as Messi himself has seven Bad Bunny tracks saved on his pregame playlist. The beats are working wonders for the Argentine titan as well, with Messi delivering a signature performance in Argentina's recent World Cup qualifier against Bolivia, scoring a hat trick and delivering two assists that lead his country to a dominant 6-0 win.
The two heavyweights are now hooking up with adidas for a collection inspired by heritage models, materials and colourways from Team Trefoil’s vast archive. Included in the collaboration is two of adi’s more popular designs, the adidas Gazelle and adidas F50 cleat. Worn throughout much of Messi’s peerless playing career, the F50 cleat is rendered in a regal gold remix paying homage to Messi’s innumerable trophies and awards. The ‘X’ stripe on the heels is also a subtle reference to Messi’s number 10 jersey number.
The Gazelle, once engineered as an indoor soccer silhouette, is also one of Bad Bunny’s favourite silhouettes and continues the golden theme of the F50. Both designs feature the signatures of Bad Bunny and Messi alongside the inscription ‘Bad Bunny Para Messi’ on the tongues.
‘Messi's last name has become its own word, a synonym for greatness, courage and heart,’ says Bad Bunny. ‘Watching him play with the passion he does is a privilege. I compare the love he feels for his country and his sport to the love I feel for music and Puerto Rico. Collaborating with him is an honour that so many people dream of and I never even imagined I could achieve it. Today, I feel so grateful to be able to represent our culture with the GOAT.’
The Bad Bunny and Lionel Messi adidas collection will be available on the CONFIRMED and adidas flagship app starting on October 21. The collection will then hit retail stores on October 26.
