Way of Wade Launches First Signature Sneaker For D’Angelo Russell

Dwyane Wade’s Way of Wade line have steadily carved their own lane since launching in partnership with Li-Ning in 2012. Known for blending personal storytelling with performance design, the brand have become a platform for Wade’s post-NBA vision – and now, for the next wave of athletes.

Enter D’Angelo Russell. A 2019 NBA All-Star and one of the league’s most creative guards, Russell joined the Way of Wade family six years ago. Now, he becomes the brand’s first signature athlete outside of Wade himself, debuting his own model: the Way of Wade DLO1 ‘Canvas’.

Dropping exclusively via KICKS CREW on May 17, 2025, the DLO1 ‘Canvas’ draws inspiration from a painting created by Russell’s young son. The sneaker features expressive brushstroke graphics, a sculpted TPU support system, and a red pull tab marked with ‘Family’. Russell’s personal logo appears at the heel.

According to Russell, the design reflects his evolution as both a player and father. He quotes the famous Muhammad Ali mantra – ‘Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee’ – as as a key influence, and describes the release as a personal and creative milestone for the brand.

On the hardwood, Russell began the 2024–25 NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played 29 games before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets in late December. During the Lakers’ 2024 playoff run, he averaged 14.2 points and 4.2 assists. Since joining Brooklyn, he’s taken on a veteran role and has expressed interest in staying with the team as he approaches free agency.
