Giannis Antetokounmpo Leaks His Next Signature Sneaker
The Greek Freak beat the leaks. Giannis Antetokounmpo casually leaked his upcoming Nike Freak 7 in a dump on his Instagram. The Milwaukee Bucks star revealed a first look at his seventh signature shoe quietly. Nike’s current lineup of signature basketball shoes deviates little from the current basketball sneaker trend of chasing the low-top Kobe wave. However, these Freak 7s offer something different. They blend Giannis’ intensity with the wavy ridges of a forgotten Nike Basketball model.
The Freak 7s take the road less traveled in today’s basketball market: they’re mid-tops. The market is dominated by lows and it’s quite difficult to find a pair of mids let alone high-top performance sneakers. Giannis does stay true the the backward Swoosh, a theme that has been present in several of his signature models. The rippled midsole designs call back to the 2012 Hyperdunk, and the Lunar Hypergamer from that same year. Both of those models utilised Lunarlon foam cushioning and are visually similar to the new Freak 7s. The most interesting point is the sole, two different traction patterns clash into each other. The portion on the lateral side spells out ‘Antetokounmpo’. This will be an ASMR fan’s treasure trove, on top of the extended midsole the upper is a textured mesh and even the Swoosh logos have a rigid graphic on them.
Given that we are still in the leak stage, we will have to wait for an official announcement from Nike to learn the tech specs of the Freak 7s as well as plans for the release. Giannis’ post does shed some light on a potential first colourway, which could be dubbed ‘Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing’. Stick with Sneaker Freaker for all the updates.
