Reigning NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown has turned his back on a big ol’ pile of cash to launch his own performance brand, 741. According to a press release by Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston, Brown reportedly rejected several other opportunities from ‘major sneaker companies to pursue full ownership and creative control of his own brand’.

Since his debut in the league, Brown has dipped his toes in several sneaker ventures. Originally signing with Team Trefoil, Brown later inked a short-lived deal with Chinese imprint PEAK. During that time, he was spotted wearing rival brands like adidas and Nike while covering up their logos. In 2022, he became the first NBA player to sign with Kanye West’s Donda Sports, a partnership that ultimately boiled over the same year after controversies regarding Ye’s public comments. Brown’s also not been afraid to fire one across Nike’s bow on occasion. He was outspoken in his criticism of Nike after the sportswear giant cut ties with Irving in late 2022, and even called out the brand after his perceived snub on Team USA – of which Nike of course is a important sponsor. Now, after nearly a decade working with major brands, Jaylen Brown is starting his own.

In the official announcement for his new brand, Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown also unveiled a new sneaker silhouette. While there's no information about the tech yet, he’s been seen wearing the pair on several occasions over the summer and he even handed out some to young hoopers at New York City's immortal Rucker Park this month.

Alongside the reveal, the brand released a statement detailing their vision for the model and the brand’s broader direction: ‘Welcome to 741, the future of performance. With innovation at its core, 741 fuses advanced technology and minimalist design, redefining what it means to step into your potential. These sneakers are engineered for champions, built for those who seek excellence at every step.’

Pre-orders for the new shoe model are open right now from the 741 website.
