Ahead of the global launch, Kids of Immigrants are launching their Nike Air Max Sunder this weekend at ComplexCon!
After being unveiled earlier this year, official Nike eComm imagery of the Kids of Immigrants x Nike Air Max Sunder has emerged. A release date has also been rumoured for November 21, but that's not set in stone just yet so stay locked to Sneaker Freaker to keep updated.
Founded by Daniel Buezo and Weleh Dennis in 2016, the Los Angeles-based label Kids of Immigrants continue to promote inclusivity, unity, and the celebration of immigrant heritage. The inspiring label is now turning their attention to a late-90s model generating all kinds of heat recently: the Nike Air Max Sunder. The collaboration is reportedly launching in the coming months.
This will be the label's sophomore footwear collaboration with Nike, and the model features a sleek neoprene upper with cage-like, retrofuturist TPU covers. Incorporating a sci-fi gradient of cosmic purple and pink, the collaboration is seemingly imbued with a sense of Y2K tech nostalgia – fitting given the era in which the Sunder first arrived.
Introduced in 1999 as a specialised cross-training shoe, the Air Max Sunder belonged to one of Nike’s starry-eyed tech-sperimental eras. Specifically tailored to the performance needs of the athlete, the model was most notable for its unique closure system, which often included a zipper and velcro straps. The shoe was dormant for a number of years until Comme des Garçons got their hands on the silhouette in 2021.
Currently, there’s no official word on a release date, but make sure to keep it locked to Sneaker Freaker for updates.
