New Balance have brought back the classic 770 cross-trainer – and it’s made for skate!

The New Balance CXT770 is a relic of the cross-trainer boom that kicked off across the 1980s and 90s. Originally conceived during an exploratory period for Boston’s R&D department, the versatile trainer quickly became a staple for tennis players thanks to its supreme stability on the court. Now we've collected confirmation that the original CXT770 build is back in action, but this time it'll be part of Boston’s Numeric skate arm.

Coming correct in a true-to-OG construction, this 30-year-old heater is decked out in all the latest skate-ready tech. Offering stability is the integrated Counter Reinforcer Footframe System, that wraps the heel and separates the midsole into two distinct parts. The toe cap boasts double-layer reinforcement, with 0.8mm of thermoplastic rubber. Comfort and absorption is all taken care of thanks to a moulded PU performance insole, and your feet are secured with internal tongue straps. Rounding out the design is the Numeric branding, hitting pride of place on the TPU arm and throwback 90s-style tongue tag.

Two colourways have emerged so far, both suited up in leather and suede. The first is reminiscent of the hues used on the NB 555 Trail, with grey base layer alongside muted green and poppin’ purple hits. The second dons a classic black and grey build-out, further complemented by gum outsole and white midsole.

We’re expecting the 770 to become a regular fixture in the Numeric catalogue, alongside Andrew Reynolds' mega 933 which debuted earlier this year.
