Comme des Garçons are known for digging in Nike’s extensive archive and resurrecting forgotten sneakers from years gone by. A few years back, we even wrote a whole feature about this, looking at the many Nike sneakers CDG helped revive. In recent times, the biggest sneaker the Japanese brand brought into the spotlight was the Air Max Sunder. A three-shoe pack by Team Swoosh and the Rei Kawakubo-led imprint dropped in 2022, sending the shrouded Sunder straight into the hype cycle. Soon after that, the collaborative Air Max Sunder made serious waves on socials, and maybe triggered Nike to work on the model further.
Fast-forward to 2023 and Nike actually confirmed the Air Max Sunder for 2024 in their SNKRS Showcase, revealing a trio of colourways. Originally, the Air Max Sunder touched down in 1999, but never really took off either as a lifestyle or even sports-geared silhouette, until recently. Its look exudes an old-school tech feel, with neoprene uppers and tight-suede mudguards with various synthetic details and zip closure. So far, two colourways have been somewhat confirmed to release in the coming weeks, one in ’Triple Black’, with another in a tonal orange build. Official imagery has arrived for the latter, which you can peruse above.
An exact release date is not currently known for the 2025 Nike Air Max Sunder, but currently official imagery is only available for the orange iteration. Stay locked to Sneaker Freaker to keep updated.
