Nike Revive the Archival 2000s Nike Air Superfly for 2025
After teasing the revival of the Air Superfly last year, Nike have now made it official, with a release date for the debut colourway in silver and black locked in for January 28 at select Nike retail partners and February 7 globally on SNKRS.
On why now is the time to bring it back, Women’s Footwear Product Management Expert Ellen Lekas says, 'It feels like the perfect time to reintroduce the Air Superfly to a new generation, letting this distinctive silhouette take on a new era. Racing trainers like this one are low to the ground, more minimalist, lightweight and really sleek — and we brought back this model specifically because it offers an authentic Nike perspective that is progressive, accessible and wearable, striking a perfect balance that’s so right for women today.’
Archival low-profile styles have had a pretty successful run-out throughout 2024, and it looks like Nike are wanting in on the action. Following in the footsteps of PUMA’s Mostro and Speedcat and adidas’ Taekwondo, the Swoosh have sifted through their back catalogue for their ultimate Y2K callback, and they may just have found it in the Nike Air Superfly.
Channelling the ultra-skinny aesthetics of nineties and early noughties, the 2001 Nike Air Superfly is a running-inspired silhouette that’s perfectly poised to reenter the zeitgeist. In fact, the Swoosh have even soft-launched the model’s return on a shoot with Sha’Carri Richardson, who showed off the upcoming ‘Black/Silver’ colourway. So far three other versions are expected to hit the shelves – a ‘Triple Black’ and ‘Lab Green’ version have also surfaced, as well as a red colourway that could well be looking to challenge the Speedcat for pole position on the fashion circuit.
While the early 2000s was an experimental time in sneaker tech, the Nike Air Superfly kept things pretty simple, with a mostly leather build and perforated leather panels making up the upper, and an Air unit nestled in the midsole. Any upgrades from the 2001 model are yet to be specified, but we’re expecting to find out more closer to the January 10, 2025 release day. Stay locked for more info as it comes in!
