Update17 Oct 2024

Wu-Tang Clan have revealed a special edition boxset for the Nike Dunk High, ahead of the pair's November 9 release via SNKRS. The set comes with a pair of the colab, along with a candle in the scent 'Staten Island Honey' and a co-branded t-shirt. It's all housed in a beehive-inspired box and looks to come in both yellow and black. The final image of their IG carousel shows RZA signing the clear panel of the box, so it's expected that Nike and Wu-Tang will host a giveaway of sorts to win the limited edition pack. Update15 Oct 2024

The time has arrived! After shock dropping and releasing exclusively through Spotify Fans First, the Wu-Tang Dunks finally have a SNKRS release date. The iconic black-and-yellow pair will hit shelves both online and in-store at SNKRS and select retailers on November 9 for $150. The date isn't random, as last year the New York mayor announced it as the official Wu-Tang Clan day from then onwards. In 2023, it celebrated the 30th anniversary of their album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and the Empire State building was lit up in black and yellow for the occasion. Update30 Sep 2024

Wu-Tang treated real fans to exclusive access to their collaborative Dunk over the weekend via Spotify's Fans First initiative. The collective's top listeners received an email that read: 'The Nike x Wu-Tang collab is back from the lab and could end up on your feet. As you walk the sidewalks or skateboard down the concrete streets. Or maybe you’ll put them on the shelf and keep ‘em for self. Whatever path you choose, you can’t lose, because you’ll be first to burst on the scene. This is a gift from Nike, Wu, and the Spotify team as a token of thanks to you, for all of your streams.' If you received the email, you technically have until October 4 or until stock sells out.

On top of this, SNKRS hosted a shock drop of the anticipated pair on Saturday at midnight, but don't fret if you didn't cop at either of these releases as they are still releasing officially via SNKRS and other select retailers in the coming months.

Update26 Aug 2024

Barely a few months has passed since the Nike Dunk High 'Wu-Tang' was teased, and a release date emerged for the 2024 pair. Japanese retailer atmos had originally dropped a date on their web store for September 1, this has since been taken down. A wider drop, or SNKRS date isn't available just yet, but stay locked to keep updated.

Another grail is about to no longer be a grail! Nike have taken to their socials to tease one of the most mythical sneakers of all-time – the Dunk High ‘Wu-Tang’.

The unicorn iteration originally touched down in 1999 as a friends and family exclusive iteration for legendary NY rap group Wu-Tang Clan. There’s been a bit of debate surrounding how many pairs were made, with Nike employee Drew Greer hinting at 100 pairs in circulation. Although, it’s widely accepted that only 36 Dunk Highs were created, after the brand’s iconic debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Nevertheless, the Dunk High ‘Wu-Tang’ has remained a true unicorn for sneaker collectors around the globe, selling in the high tens-of-thousands. Currently, a US 7.5 is available right now on Sotheby’s for a whopping $27,500. There was also a US 9 that sold on Justin Reed’s webstore for almost double that price, selling for a crazy $50,000. Notoriously, Travis Scott has a pair of these Dunk Highs and has rocked them many times.

If you couldn’t already tell from the iconic colour-blocking, the Dunk High ‘Wu-Tang’ is basically the ‘Goldenrod’, which is taken from Team Swoosh’s original 1985 ‘Be True to Your School’ series. However, Wu-Tang’s version hosts the rap groups iconic ‘W’ logo on the lateral heel and tongue. Judging from the teaser image, it seems the newest iteration will land true to the original. The uppers come correct with full-leather uppers, black and ‘Pollen’ colour-blocking.

This has been somewhat strange having Nike tease a megalithic collaboration like this, as the brand doesn’t usually take to socials to show their cards. However, it seems Nike are trying to curb the amount of early leaks going round, with methods such as their SNKRS showcase.

So far, there’s been no release information for the Nike Dunk High retro ‘Wu-Tang’, but word is circulating that they’ll land towards the tail-end of 2024. Wu-Tang has since posted the same teaser as Nike, with a link to this website that you can add your phone number to receive new details. Stay locked to Sneaker Freaker for more details.
