Today Nike have officially introduced the first shoe ever created specifically for breakdancing, the Nike Jam. The first two colourways of ‘Black/Gum’ and ‘Brown’ will be available at select Nike retailers and Nike.com on July 16. Along with the Jam sneaker, Nike have announced Olympic kits for the United States, Korea and Japan breaking teams, which will be available at retail on August 1. The kits were designed by legendary artist and long-time Nike collaborator Futura, who also has a colourway of the Jam releasing on July 26. Take a look at the official images from Nike below.

Earlier this year, Nike took to Paris for their ‘On Air’ extravaganza, where all their latest Olympic-ready tech was debuted to the world. One shoe we were surprised to see was the Nike Jam, a fresh footwear creation for break dancing! Now, what looks like two GR colourways have emerged, with official imagery hinting at a release soon.

The sport of breakdancing has been added to the Paris 2024 Olympic calendar, and it's set to be held at the Place de la Concorde. Nike have been working on their breaking shoe for seven years in anticipation, with the uniforms designed by none other than Futura. Created in partnership with the NSRL (Nike Sports Research Lab), the Jam's development involved the contribution of breakdancers from across the globe. The Nike Jam looks like a simplistic retro shoe, and that’s because it mostly is. Team Swoosh ditched their usual fancy Zoom, Air and React tech and instead opted for a traditional foam midsole. Elsewhere, the uppers have been decked out in heavy textile overlays to withstand heavy wear, and a curved bottom helps ankles roll easier. The cutest detail on the Jam is the upside-down midsole Swoosh, which is the right way up when breakers do handstand moves.

Following the debut of the Olympic colourway, two fresh iterations have been unveiled that you may be able to cop. The first has been dubbed ‘Dark Driftwood’, and it rocks a tonal brown upper with a cream midsole and sizeable black medial and lateral Swoosh. The second is a clean ‘Black Gum’ that boasts a blacked-out upper, white branding details, gum midsole and black contrasting outsole.

Nike haven’t yet announced a release date for the Jam in ‘Dark Driftwood’ or ‘Black Gum’, but all signs point to a drop around the beginning of the olympics. Stay locked to Sneaker Freaker to keep updated, and head here for all of our Paris 2024 coverage.
