Nike are highlighting the future of football in an all-new collective of women footballers called Nike United. The brand has brought together this team of powerhouse athletes to empower the next generation to set their dreams high. To debut the collective, Nike Football are releasing a capsule of performance football boots that all share the same hero colourway.
Three franchises are heroed in the 15-boot collection, the Tiempo, Mercurial and Phantom, and each one has two star athletes attached to them based on their playing style. Patricia Guijarro and Naomi Girma are the faces of the Tiempo, as it provides the required versatility and touch for their performance needs; Lauren James and Salma Paralluelo represent the Mercurial, which is designed for the game’s fastest athletes; and Sophia Wilson and Deyna Castellanos hero the Phantom, known for its precision and ball control qualities.
‘What I like the most about this boot is that it was created with six different players who come from different backgrounds and play for different teams, but we all came together to create something special that we can share with the world,’ says Wilson.
The common purple and ‘Volt’ colourway symbolises power and ambition, and the pattern featured on each boot is inspired by shattered glass, which nods to the players who are breaking through the glass ceiling of women’s football. The athletes’ names also appear near a bespoke Nike United logo along with a custom sock liner for that extra touch of personality and power.
‘Being a part of this boom and just making people respect women’s sports is exciting,’ says Girma. ‘When we’re done, it’s going to be even better for the next generation.’
