The Nike Vaporfly 4 Is Landing Next Week
The supersonic Nike Vaporfly 4 is right around the corner. Slip your feet into the 'Sail/Total Orange’ colourway on March 14.
While the Swoosh’s race-day running shoes have seen plenty of podiums over the years, the running world relies on innovation. To keep pace with (or lead!) the front of the pack, you need to constantly tinker with tech that’ll make you faster, stronger and better – even if it was once record breaking. Nike’s Vaporfly is a perfect example – the franchise, which was once described as ‘technological doping’ ushered in the super shoe trend, and now competes with a ton of other carbon-plated race-day shoes, including Nike’s own Alphafly 3. Now, to continue to push things forward, Beaverton have revealed the Vaporfly 4, as well as an upgraded Streakfly in the Streakfly 2, with both shoes tipped to drop in March.
Let’s toe off with the Vaporfly 4 – the lightest version of the Vaporfly to date, weighing 10 grams less than its predecessor, and 20 grams lighter than the OG Vaporfly. The Vaporfly 4 also builds on the franchise by introducing a new Flyplate curvature, which helps to unlock leverage from the foot and ankle. It also features ZoomX Foam, which already Nike’s lightest compound, but to keep things featherweight, the Swoosh has eliminated some foam from the midsole design, using only as much as strictly needed. A new upper also improves the shoe’s fit, while also saving weight.
The Vaporfly’s influence trickles down into the Streakfly 2, a speedy racer designed for shorter distances. Built with an aggressive stance (it’s last is that of a track spike), the Streakfly 2 also features a full-length Flyplate – a first for the Streakfly line – and ZoomX foam, as well as a 4mm offset which’ll encourage you to run on your forefoot. The model is also super lightweight, coming in at 126 grams – an astonishing 40 grams lighter than the OG Streakfly!
As expected, both of Beaverton’s new developments have been put to the test by Swoosh athletes, who have offered their feedback throughout the process. The models will being hitting the shelves in March, so stay tuned for specifics!
