Undoubtedly the posterboy for PUMA’s signature sneaker line-up, LaMelo Ball has cemented himself as the Big Cat’s brightest star. However, consistency on the hardwood – and off it – will be key for the 2024–25 season, and so will good behaviour. The NBA has fined LaMelo $100,000 for making comments deemed ‘offensive’ and ‘derogatory’ following the Hornets’ narrow win against the Bucks in North Carolina.

While PUMA has yet to release an official statement on the matter, there’s no indication that Ball’s off-court behaviour will affect the rollout of his highly anticipated MB.04 colourways. The latest design, a fiery ‘Phoenix’ edition, feels aptly named – after all, the mythical bird symbolises renewal and rebirth. Take note, LaMelo…

The ‘Phoenix’ edition soars with vibrant hues of gold, orange, and red, evocative of flames. These fiery tones dominate the MB.04’s base layer, while flame graphics blaze across the uppers. Alien-esque TPU overlays in purple, yellow, and orange not only complement the theme but also provide structural support. Signature touches such as ‘Rare,’ ‘1 of One,’ and ‘Love’ are subtly embedded throughout the design, while the tongue boasts an iridescent phoenix emblem. Underfoot, PUMA equips the MB.04 with full-length NITRO Foam cushioning for explosive energy return and responsiveness.

Set your calendars: the PUMA MB.04 ‘Phoenix’ is scheduled to take flight on December 6. For more NBA sneaker news, don’t miss our breakdown of the biggest sneaker storylines for the 2024–25 season.
